Coldplay: Clocks

Clocks is a song by English alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. Built around a repeating piano riff, the song features cryptic lyrics of contrast and urgency themes. Several remixes of the track exist and its riff has been widely sampled.

Lead singer Chris Martin came up with the lyrics and the piano riff shortly before Coldplay released the album. Since they didn’t have much time, they put it aside and planned to work on it for their next album. When Martin’s friend heard the demo, he convinced them to do whatever was necessary to record it for A Rush Of Blood To The Head, especially since the song deals with the importance of time. The song’s pulsing, cyclical riff was inspired, according to Martin, by the band Muse.

Like many Coldplay songs, this is about love. The lyrics are about being in a conflicted, but very intense relationship as precious time slips away. This song won the Grammy for 2003 Record Of The Year.

The Verve: Bitter Sweet Symphony

The Verve were an English rock band formed in 1990 in Wigan by lead vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bassist Simon Jones, and drummer Peter Salisbury. Simon Tong later became a member. Beginning with a psychedelic sound indebted to shoegazing and space rock, by the mid-1990s the band had released several EPs and three albums.
They also endured name and line-up changes, breakups, health problems, drug abuse and various lawsuits. Filter referred to them as «one of the tightest knit, yet ultimately volatile bands in history».
Their commercial breakthrough was the 1997 album Urban Hymns and their single «Bitter Sweet Symphony», which was orchestrated by music producer Will Malone, which became a worldwide hit. Soon after this commercial peak, the band broke up in April 1999, citing internal conflicts.
The band’s original line-up reunited in June 2007, embarking on a tour later that year and releasing the album Forth in August 2008. In 2009, the band broke up for the third time.

Amy Winehouse: Love is a losing game

Amy Jade Winehouse (born 14 September 1983) is an English singer-songwriter, known for her eclectic mix of various musical genres including R&B, soul, and jazz.

Winehouse has been credited as being an influence in the rise in popularity of female musicians and soul music and revitalising British music.

Her problems with drug and alcohol abuse, as well as self-destructive behaviour, have become regular tabloid news since 2007. She and her former husband were plagued by legal troubles that left him serving prison time. In 2008, Winehouse faced a series of health complications that threatened both her career and her life. Winehouse’s distinctive style has been the muse for fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld.

Love Is a Losing Game is a song written and recorded for her second album Back to Black (2006). Here I present it to you in an inspiring video animation.
